Fueled by growth
According to a recent article by St George News, home prices are continuing to rise with no end in sight.
According to Utah Association of Realtors, the median list price for a house in Washington County is $399,000 as of March, 2021. To put that into perspective, it was $299,000 in April 2018.
A 2019 report from the U.S. Census Bureau showed St. George as the third fastest-growing metro area in the nation with a 3.5 percent increase after adding about 6,000 new residents last year for an estimated 2018 population of 171,700.
Lower taxes for most
Utah is a flat taxes state. Currently, our single income tax rate is 4.95% for all income levels. Since California has multiple tax brackets, most high-wage earners will save considerably on income taxes after moving from California to Utah. 14 years ago when I moved here, I was able to take advantage of significant income tax savings.
When comparing California property taxes to Utah, our property taxes are typically lower according to Forbes. Depending on where you live in California, our real estate home prices are significantly cheaper which already lowers your tax bill. Factor in a lower overall tax percentage, your total property tax savings should be very significant.
Snow skiing is extremely popular
California may have the beach, but they have nothing on Utah’s slopes. World famous, Utah’s resorts attract thousands of skiers from all over the world. You can shred pow at Sundance or take things up a notch at Park City. For skiers and snowboard enthusiasts, a move to Utah means world class skiing each and every year!
Winter sports, especially skiing and snowboarding, are huge in Utah. They’re a big part of the state economy, but they’re also popular with locals who relish the active lifestyle and the chance to get outside during the colder months.

I remember our first fast food dine-in experience. We were up in Cedar City and decided to dine at Dairy Queen. After ordering, we saw fry sauce for the first time and decided why not? We’ve been hooked ever since!

St. George Utah is a perfect choice in regard to climate, as local residents can feel all the features of the dry continental climate. They enjoy summer warmth and reasonably cold winters. There is rather low precipitation and the temperature rarely goes in its extremes.
